Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 7.33.00 PM

Milanese fashion designer Veronica Etro is featured in this episode of Milan Fashion Week where we are introduced to her Autumn/Winter 2014-15 pret-a-porter collection. The luxury fashion house has a line of footwear, clothing, handbags, perfume and accessories and has been a driving force in the fashion industry since 1968. While traditional Paisley Jacquard fabrics dominated earlier collections, Etro has moved into Cashmere wool design, vivid colors, and handbags encrusted with pulverized crystal fragments. The fashion house’s approach to design is poetic-based as opposed to one of aggression. Veronica Etro is the creative director of the women’s department of Etro and she draws inspiration from photography and modern art.

The garments in this collection consist of ponchos, jackets, long woven coats, shawls, cropped pants, calf-length dresses, fitted trousers, Jacquard sweaters, silk shirt dresses, peasant tops, suits, fur coats, vests and scarves. The designs are distinctly Russian or Balkan in style, featuring balloon trousers and sleeves, woollen vests, jackets and trousers with either paisley or geometric design, and shirts, dresses and blouses with boat necklines that lacked collars.

Silk, satin, wool, and organic cotton are the fabrics used in this collection. The color scheme is distinctly earthen and includes, Charleston Green, Dark Cerulean, Dark Puce, Deep Raspberry, Chamoisee, Imperial Grey, Heart Gold, Chestnut, English Red, Cinereous, Goldenrod, Citron, Dark Cyan, Coffee, Copper Rose, Cool Grey, Cyber Yellow, Dark Candy Apple, Lava, Olive Green, Dark Slate Blue, Deer, Dim Grey, Ebony, Fallow, Khaki and French Bistre.

Some of the outstanding garments in this collection were the balloon pants made of gold lame in a striking camo pattern accented with a Fallow color leather and metal belt; a dress cut just below the knee, with chiffon mid-forearm length sleeves attached to a plaid and geometric patterned wool and silk blended dress, and; ßOlive Green, Dark Slate Blue and Deer color large paisley print dress cut just below the knee, with elbow-length Dark Slate Blue small paisley print draped sleeves, belted with a wide red, gold and black fabric belt, accented with a Dark Slate Blue woollen scarf and leather satchel handbag and tall Olive Green suede leather boots.
