Pretty Shouldn’t Poison: Our Favorite Non Toxic Nail Polish Brand
Everyone loves a killer nail polish shade, but using nail polishes that kill… not so much. Nail polish provides us with a simple and convenient means to showcase our personalities and make bold or classic style statements—it’s the finishing touch on a fabulous overall look.
The bad news is that the overwhelming majority of us unwittingly invite toxins into our systems with each use. The primary culprits are chemical ingredients known as the “toxic trio:” ibutyl phthalate, toluene, and formaldehyde. Long-term exposure to the first two are known to cause birth defects and developmental problems, while long-term exposure to the latter is known to cause cancer. Other possible harmful ingredients include, but are not limited to, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, nitrocellulose, acetone, and heavy metals.
But worry not dear fashionistas, for there are a number of nail polish brands that have recognized this problem and come to our fashion-rescues. To make your search easier, here are a few of our favorite non-toxic nail polish brands:
P.S. Here’s a handy tip: don’t be fooled by nail polishes that are simply labeled “non-toxic.” Read the actual ingredients listed and make sure that these chemicals are not present.
