American Apparel CEO Gets The Boot
It was only a matter of time after having several sexual harassment suits filed against him that American Apparel has given its controversial president and CEO Dov Charney the boot! While the company told Women’s Wear Daily that they plan to replace him within 30 days, it is a troubling time for this beloved, on-the-verge brand.
The newly appointed co-chairman of the company’s board, Allan Mayar stated, “We take no joy in this, but the board felt it was the right thing to do. Dov Charney created American Apparel, but the company has grown much larger than any one individual and we are confident that its greatest days are still ahead.”
It’s no secret that the company has been struggling as their profits have decreased over the past years. While they have tried to draw people in over their racy advertisements, this is a pivotal time for the company’s overall success. It has been announced that they will be turning a new leaf and getting a facelift to their ads as well as the products they carry in their stores.
Mayer finished by adding, “Our core business—designing, manufacturing, and selling American-made branded apparel—is strong and continues to demonstrate great potential for growth, both in the U.S. and abroad. This new chapter in the American Apparel story will be the most exciting one yet.”
Do you this American Apparel will make it through this? Ideas? Thoughts?
