Engagement Ring Advice For The Groom To Be

Although the best way to get your sweetheart a diamond engagement ring she will love, is to let her pick one herself, most guys find it harder to propose this way. However, sometimes it takes the trying on of many rings before she finds the one that makes her feel perfect in her own way, which after all, is part of the point, isn’t it? Its not a bad idea to pick it out though, and chances are if you put effort into it you can get one that she would love the same as if she picked it out, if not more! But if you aren’t letting her pick her own ring you must keep in mind while you are doing your shopping that she will have to wear and look at this ring every day for many years to come. You want the ring you buy her to be something that you know she will love and appreciate and the amount of effort you put into choosing one shows in the ring and the results.
First thing’s first, Pay attention to what she likes! If you plan on marrying this woman it will definitely come in handy knowing her jewelery likes and dislikes. There are more than one ways to do this, a good way, without saying to much is watching what she wears. If she’s the type of girl who always wears accessories with her outfits, you should start to develop a sense of what she has a taste for. If she’s not that kind of girl, Don’t fear! There are other options. Next time you’re flipping through a magazine or watching a movie, ask her opinion on the jewelry some other women are wearing, this way you should get an idea of her opinions. Watch carefully for her styles like does she wear bold jewelery, classic or vintage? This will give you some good information to point out to the sales representative while you’re shopping.
Also consider what will look most flattering on her hands. Would she prefer a cluster of gems, or a solitaire diamond sitting alone on a plan wedding band? What colors does she look best in? Another important thing to factor in is her lifestyle. You need to ask yourself things like, Will a big bulky ring get in her way at work? Does she need something small and professional looking? There are also fancy extras to think about, what shape does she want? A round or a square, or maybe something more unique like a heart. Maybe you should think about getting it engraved. Over time, if you pay attention you will be able to answer most of these questions, if you’re still unsure, swear a family member to secrecy and ask their opinion, you’ll most likely need to contact one of them for her size anyway. So Don’t worry, think about these things, ask for peoples advice, and most importantly, think long and hard about what kind of ring to get your partner.

Emerald Appraised Jewelry Part One

art one of a two part series on Emerald Appraised Jewelry.

Emeralds are a variety of Beryl the mineral, which in this case is colored green due to the trace elements of chromium and occasionally iron.

A little known fact is that, by weight emeralds are the most valuable stone in the world and the best quality emeralds are more valuable than diamonds (who’s value actually is more contrived than as a result of natural market forces).

Emeralds can reduce in value depending on the number of inclusions (flaws, fissures or bubbles within the stone) and the hardness naturally decreases also.

Emeralds are usually oiled with microscopically to fill any cracks and fissures within the stone. And this helps to retain the stones hardness level of around 7.5 on the Moh hardness scale.

Emeralds come in various shades of green to bluish green but brilliant green is by far the most popular. Also the clarity of a emerald will affect the value. An emerald with no inclusions and perfect clarity is extremely rare and would be worth its weight in much more than diamonds.

Emeralds are rare however and so synthetic stones are made. Without going into two technical and boring details one of the first methods was to grow emeralds on colorless beryl seeds which become coated on both sides. The growth is slow, about 1 millimeter per month and it takes seven months to produce a 7mm thick emerald.

Later more sophisticated methods involving high pressure and temperatures have been used although the exact processes tend to be kept secret. Synthetics emeralds are often referred to as ‘created’.

The Emerald is considered the traditional birthstone for April and May , as well as the traditional gemstone for the astrological sign of Taurus and in some cultures, the emerald is the traditional gift for the 55th wedding anniversary. It is also used as a 20th and 35th wedding anniversary stone.

In part two of emerald appraised jewelry, available at http://allaboutemeralds.org, we look at how to buy emeralds and what to look for.
